Chapters is an adorable bookshop on the top of Joseph Lane. They sell books, stationary and a pretty good Hot Chocolate.
Bookstores in general are the most relaxing and beautiful places and Chapters is no exception. Lucky for us, we went in December and the store was decorated for Christmas and it was more than charming. There's a small area at the centre of the bookstore with two sofas where you can snuggle up with a good book. There is also a very nice lady, who will help you find what you are looking for.
The store is divided by genre, which makes everything so much easier. When you enter, you will find a wall of colouring books for adults. We flipped through the pages marveling at the intricate patterns, joking at how we will never have the patience nor the creativity to finish one. But, it is said to be therapeutic so if you're stressed, you should try one out!
To your left it's all children's books, colourful books sitting on charmingly decorated shelves. There are also ornaments like tiny book lights in the shape of oil lamps, which I personally loved! I would have definitely bought one but spending Rs. 2000+ for a tiny light seemed steep.
To your right, it is mostly young adult literature and biographies. There is also a small room, which contains main stream novels of books which were made into movies (The Danish Girl, This Is Where I Leave You, Me Before You, just to name a few).
Aside from the books, there is a also a small collection of stationery, like colour pencils, electronic bookmarks with built-in dictionaries. Chapters also sells packaged love cakes, but this is probably seasonal.
Chapters also has a tiny cafe which serves up tea, coffee and a variety of milkshakes. We tried their Strawberry Milkshake (Rs. 250) and Hot Chocolate (Rs. 300). The milkshake tasted like regular strawberry milk which was put in a blender (definitely not featuring real strawberry).
The hot chocolate on the other hand was really good. It was well balanced and not too sweet. There was an ample amount of foam covered in cocoa powder that made it all the more better.
All in all, we loved Chapters. If you want to go read in a chill spot uninterrupted, or grab some coffee with an instagrammable background, this is the place for you.
A cute bookstore in Bambalapitiya that serves up coffee and comfort.
Chapters has moved from Staple Street to a more central location at Joseph Lane, Bamba. They have a decent range of books, mostly fantasy and illustration, but what we really love about this bookshop is it's so much more than a store: there's a little coffee corner, some comfy sofas and even a DVD player with a movie collection.
Chapters is a fairly new little book shop located on Staple Street. Actually, it looks little from the outside but it's not so little once you go in. It's fancier than the average Sarasavi or Vijitha Yapa, going for a look and feel more along the lines of the bookshops at Barefoot and ODEL.
