The Pumpkin Lab whips up some bowls of soup, rice, salad, wraps and pizza. At a glance, it looks quite interesting, so we ordered a Buffalo Chicken Wrap (Rs. 350), Golden Protein Rice Bowl with Teriyaki Chicken (Rs. 480) and a Red Rubino Pizza (Rs. 1300) with Seafood (Rs. 70).
The Buffalo Chicken Wrap featured a homemade, whole grain wrap, slathered with a dressing of your choice (Chilli Mayonnaise or Hummus & Tahini, we picked the latter) and stuffed with chunks of bell pepper, lettuce, onion, tomato, and chicken tossed in homemade buffalo sauce.
It was extremely leaky and kept spilling all over the plate. The chicken flavour was almost non-existent, as the other elements, especially the sweet-tasting sauce overpowered everything.
Slathered with tomato sauce and homemade mozzarella, the crust was crispy and thin. It had a lot of veggies too - tomato sauce, bell pepper, tomato, onion, capsicum, and a few basil leaves. We also spotted a few pieces of prawns and cuttlefish.
This is the Golden Protein Rice Bowl with Teriyaki Chicken. Packed with a good amount of chickpeas, kidney beans, sweet corn, green peas, beans, carrots and onions, the rice had a fluffy texture.
However, there wasn't a lot of flavour to it; it tasted like plain rice. The chicken itself was quite dry, and the homemade Teriyaki sauce they use to sautee it, had no significant flavour either. We got a salty undertone, which comes from the drizzle of soy sauce.
We're not sure whether it was a bad day at the kitchen, but unfortunately, we couldn't make a meal out of what we ordered. There was a lot of leftovers. The pizza wasn't edible in any way, the wrap was overly sweet, and the only thing we could eat was the rice; just a few spoonfuls of it. We sincerely hope that they'd reshape their flavours.
A place to try some Sri Lankan Chinese at very low price.…
Just ok to chill with some booze.
