No stranger to the residents in Rajagiriya and Nawala, Rocco's has been one of the few consistently good Italian restaurants. We dropped in after 3 years (boy!) and really happy to say, things are running smoothly.
Aside from the obvious pizza menu, they have a separate mains section, as well as sides, salads, pasta, risotto and a long list of desserts.
The Gamberetti was essentially a lemon marinated shrimp bedded in a mozzarella and tomato base. While the shrimp was perfectly marinated with a slightly citrusy flavour coming through, that sensation only lasted very little as there were a very little amount of tiny prawns on the pizza. You can barely see it.
The one we had at Harpo's was practically overflowing with prawns. Overall, this one was cheesy and delicious, but if we wanted that, we would have simply settled for a Margarita.
The Five Cheese, however, was so much better. It was incredibly cheesy with an abundance of ricotta, blue cheese, parmesan, mozzarella, and, in addition to the usual four, emmental. To be honest, there wasn't a big difference to the normal Four Cheese but, you do get an extra layer of cheese so really, who could complain? The combination worked really well but we couldn't possibly eat more than two slices because it was that heavy.
The biggest surprise was the Chicken Alfredo (Rs. 1000). They have really upped their pasta game since our last visit because we were basically stuffing our faces with this. The penne was cooked al dente with just the right amount of creamy and thick alfredo sauce. It was so creamy that it left creases on our lips. There were enough chicken bits to go with every bite. We highly recommend it.
As for desserts, we tried the Chocolate Pot (Rs. 450). It was a very simple dessert, but pure bliss! It was smooth, decadently full-fat pure dark chocolate. The texture was thick with an intense chocolatey flavor. We were skeptical about paying that much for just chocolate, but it was so worth it.
Their drinks menu is just as expansive as the rest, with so many options like fresh juices, milkshakes, iced teas, coffee, and soft drinks.
We settled for a Strawberry and Lime Mojito (Rs. 550) which was cool, refreshing and had a little fizz to it. It was a lot less sweet than most mojitos I have tried so I would not mind having it again.
Their service is impeccable. The waiters are well-versed, friendly and very accommodating. They do not hover around waiting for us to give the order, but rather give us enough space and time to do so. Their delivery is still running smoothly, and they seem to get a lot of it. Because while there were only a couple of people at the restaurant, they made about 10-15 pizzas just for takeaway and delivery orders.
The ambiance was one of a kind. While the entrance had the atmosphere of an Italian pizzeria, the dining area was quintessential in bringing out an upscale Speakeasy vibe; with the famous mob pictures, classic movie posters like The Godfather, as well as the wall art of newspaper clippings from the Joseph Bonanno Family to the Prohibition period. The red cushioned couches, the wooden tables, and the chairs were quite on par with the theme. I could spend days on end there.

Rocco's in Nugegoda is yet another one of the many pizzerias that has gained popularity for it's delivery. Their wood fire pizzas, while not terrible in any way, just aren't as good as some of our top spots.
The real problem with local pizzas is the bacon; bacon being something of a loose term in Sri Lanka, used to denote anything ranging from chicken ham to the actual thing. And this was the problem we had with Rocco's - the bacon

සිංහල අන්තිමට ආපු ලසඤ්ඤා එකෙන් තමා දෙන්න කට් වුණේ. චීසුයි චිකනුයි තට්ටු 4ක් විතර. තලු මැරෙන රස, සුවඳ නිසා නොකා ඉන්න බැරි කමට කටක් දෙකක් කෑවා මිසක් නැත්නම්... අඟල් 14 පීසා 1 ½ට වග කියල, හැරෙන්නවත් බැරුවනෙ හිටියෙ.
සිංහල රස තින් ක්රස්ට් පීසා හොයනවනම්, රොක්කෝස් පීසා එකට නියම තැනක්.
සිංහල දේශීය පීසාවල මූලික ගැටලුව තමයි, බේකන්. ලංකාවේ බේකන් කියන වචනයේ අරුත ලිහිල්. එයින් චිකන් හැම්වල සිට සැබෑ බේකන් දක්වා මස් අදහස් කෙරෙනවා. රොකෝස් පීසාවල අප දුටු ගැටලුව එයයි.
