Sits Cakes & Desserts

No 2, Elibank Road, Colombo 05

Sits has been our favourite cake baker for a while. Her chocolate and red velvet cupcakes are some of the best in town.

Have you tried Sits yet? If you haven't, what are you still doing? Sits has been around for a while now and they have claimed the title for the Best Cupcakes in town in my books and in our last cupcake taste-off.

The Cupcakes

They only had cupcakes and date cakes on display when we went, but you can also pre-order cakes and stuff a few days before and pick it up. We tried a few of the cupcakes.

*Pictured from left to right - Salted Caramel, Nutella, Vanilla, Chocolate, Red Velvet, and Ganache.
  • The Salted Caramel (Rs. 180) was probably the sweetest of all. The frosting was way too sweet and salty that it would have left us with a toothache had we finished it. However, what you can do is maybe scrape a layer of the topping off so that you can probably enjoy it without being overwhelmed.
  • The Nutella (Rs. 200) one was our favorite. It melts in your mouth, to the point where you can just eat it with your lips. This is one baker that knows exactly what she's doing. The Nutella was lightly coated on top with the softest cake base. More often than not, if there's a Nutella version of anything, it's literally overflowing with it. Nutella is a lot sweeter than regular chocolate so you only need small amounts of it, not half a dozen spoonfuls. The base was light, fluffy and chocolatey with very little sweetness that balanced out the Nutella. We cannot recommend this enough.
  • The Vanilla (Rs. 150) was our least favorite and it's the kind of cupcake that I would never go for. The frosting was an icing based one and it was a tad too sweet for my liking. The base was a butter cake which actually tasted just as light and fluffy as the Nutella one.

  •  The Red Velvet (Rs. 200) was an incredibly creamy, succulent treat that's well worth price of 200 bucks. The frosting was a thick cream cheese mixture with again a fluffy, airy base.
  • The Chocolate (Rs. 150) cupcake was decent with not a lot going for it. It's your average chocolate cupcake with an icing frosting. It was good, but with a ganache and Nutella around, it's sure to take a place in the backseat.
  • The Ganache (Rs. 180) was a close second to the Nutella. The base was not as fluffy and airy, rather quite dense and chocolatey with a delicious chocolate glaze on top. We highly recommend it too.

Service and Ambiance

Their service was sweet and simple, just like the cupcakes. They were friendly and quick on their feet.

The place is a beautiful two-story house with a bakery. It's simple, cute and very pleasing with a pink and white theme going around. They don't have a space for seating so it's better to just take away your orders. Everything is on display except for the cakes which you have to pre-order.

It's truly amazing to find places that have been consistently good for over a decade. Sits will forever be that place we will go to whenever we get that sweet tooth craving.

Try their Nutella Cupcakes. They're to die for!
