How To Make Pol Pittu (UYAMU)

Pol pittu, or coconut pittu, is a Sri Lankan favourite for home-made dinner. Raliya aunty shows you how to make some.


  • Rice Flour - 250g
  • Scraped Coconut - 1/2
  • Water - 1/2 cup
  • Salt - to taste


  1. Add rice flour to a bowl
  2. Add coconut
  3. Add salt
  4. Add water little by little and mix to little thick pieces
  5. Heat the pittu steamer on the stove for a few minutes 
  6. Stuff the bambu or cylinder of the pittu steamer with the dough pieces
  7. Steam for 2 minutes
  8. Remove from the stove and add a bit of coconut milk to the cylinder to loosen the pittu
  9. Remove the log of pittu from the cylinder and serve hot
